I-95.5 FM’s afternoon drive featured an interview with Dr. Hacken Williams, a lecturer in restorative justice who recently returned to Trinidad and Tobago after teaching abroad. The Kambule Performing Arts Company is organizing a two-week “rites of passage” program for young men from the East Dry River area, a project that will be facilitated by Dr. Williams.\n\nDr. Williams, who was born in Laventille, explained that the initiative aims to equip participants with practical life skills—including leadership, conflict resolution, personal hygiene, financial literacy, cultural identity, and healthy relationships. He highlighted the program’s broader community impact: through local donations, ten children have received shoes, uniforms, books, and personal-care items.\n\nThe interview also touched on the collaborative nature of the effort, noting contributions from the Kambule Arts Collective and other community members. Dr. Williams expressed optimism that the restorative-justice-focused program will empower the young men to explore their full potential and strengthen the surrounding community.
